I'm invisible ...

Invisible me
Am greatly amused that when I ask for the rights back for a short story of mine, the publisher tells me he's never heard of me, LOL! I replied with the link for the story on his site - perhaps that will help him to track me down ... Good to be so memorable, eh!

Tommy's Blind Date: Gay BDSM Romance

Gay BDSM romance Tommy's Blind Date is now available on the Kindle at only 99p!

Thirty-two year old Tommy Godolphin has been on a series of blind dates, as he doesn’t want to be single any more. However, none of them really hits the spot and the latest one has proved a complete, if amusing, disaster.

When he recounts what happened to his best friend, Jacob, he expects Jacob to laugh with him as usual, but this time he doesn’t. Instead, Jacob challenges Tommy to go out on a blind date with him, to see what, if anything, he might be doing wrong. If Tommy accepts, how will their friendship survive?

Reviews:

"Witty, sweet AND steamy - believe me when I say I felt the passion reaching out and grabbing me solidly - in all the right places, from my Kindle." (From a review at On Top Down Under Reviews)

"A delightful and steamy short story that is close to perfection. It’s a quick, delicious bite with an incredibly hot sex scene, wonderful tension, and characters that are by turns funny and interesting. The unique British flair to Brooke’s writing is always an added bonus and this is easily one of my favorites from an author with a considerable short story backlist.” (From a review at Three Dollar Bill Reviews)

"These two men are a delight to read about, I am sure Ms. Brooke had a blast writing about them, it came through in the writing very clearly. The subtle joking, the colorful way the characters describe each other and themselves. The plain fun that goes into Tommy getting ready for this all important date had me laughing until I was crying. The way that Jacob took charge when Tommy got to the restaurant late and kept it through the rest of the date; had me panting to be his date …" (From Lyssa Reviews)

I hope you enjoy the read!

For One Night Only: Gay BDSM Romance

Gay BDSM romance For One Night Only is now available at Amazon for 99p!

Jake Morrison's position as Dom has been deeply shaken by his unwitting role in the recent death of his sub. When he's allowed back into Langley's Pleasure House after a six-month ban, he longs to make amends in any way possible.

Club-owner Langley's surprising request for an unexpected encounter, however, tests Jake's sense of purpose to the core. He's willing to learn, but the lesson might not be one he expects...

Reviews

"This short story is a carefully crafted piece of work, almost an analysis of the clearly complex concept of power in BDSM. There is a judicial balance between the two sexual encounters described that reinforces the lesson of this BDSM morality tale ... this was a compelling piece of writing ..." (From a review at Jessewave Reviews)

"This is one of those books that sticks with the reader even after they have finished the book and has you wondering what more will happen between Jake and Langley in the future. The author did a wonderful job of pulling me into the story and keeping me entertained all the way to the end." (From a review at The Romance Studio)

"This is a story about persona growth as much as power play … If you like pondering the nature of D/s relationships, are interested to see the impact emotions can have on something many would call purely physical encounters, and if you enjoy well-written stories, don't miss this one!" (From a review at QMO Books)

I hope you enjoy the read!

Martin and the Wolf: Gay Paranormal Romance

Gay paranormal romance Martin and the Wolf is published at Amazon today for only 99p!

When 36-year-old lecturer Martin meets the mysterious Lucas at a neighbour’s midsummer party, the attraction is instant and hot. The two men soon start a relationship, but Martin is puzzled by Lucas’ behavior. He’s not like any other man he’s ever known - indeed sometimes he hardly seems human at all - and Martin wants to find out why.

But when one autumn night, he tracks Lucas to the depths of the local park, he realizes more eye-opening truths about his new lover and the pack of strange wolves he runs with than he'd ever before thought possible.

Reviews:

“This is an amazing story about Martin, a university lecturer, and Lucas, a somewhat wild and definitely unusual designer ... I loved the message of this story: what counts in a relationship between any two "beings" isn't how they look, nor necessarily what DNA they carry, or what they behave like. The focus in examining whether we can have a relationship with someone, and accept who and what they are, should be on how they relate to us, what they mean to us, and how they treat us. A very powerful message indeed!” [From a review at Queer Magazine Online]

“This gracefully written story handles the novelette length just fine, delivering an absorbing opposites-attract story warmed by understated humor.” [From a review at Obsidian Bookshelf]

Salt and Gold: Meditations on Exodus and St Luke

My Biblical poetry collection, Salt and Gold, is now available for only 99p at Amazon.

A series of forty meditation poems based on the stories of Exodus and the Gospel of St Luke. Particular themes are light and darkness, journeying, prayer, and the inherent otherness of God. How can human beings truly respond to God's mercy and justice in an imperfect world?

I hope you enjoy the read.

A Stranger's Table: poetry collection

My poetry collection, A Stranger's Table, is now available at Amazon for only 99p.

A poetry collection focusing on the strangeness of everyday life, and how even the simplest of objects or events can help us see with fresh eyes. An old table can be the entry to an unexplored history, a film can take us on a journey we never planned, and an infestation of wasps can turn into a war we never asked to fight.

Reviews

"There are lovely poems in Anne Brooke's A Stranger's Table … this is a book that (along with many by more famous poets) gives the lie to the idea that self-publication should be shameful." (From a review at Galatea Resurrects Reviews)

I hope you enjoy the read.

The Heart's Greater Silence: Gay Erotic Romance

Gay erotic romance The Heart's Greater Silence is now available on Kindle for only 99p or FREE with Kindle Unlimited. Here's the blurb:

Mark isn't sure he believes in love, especially when he's torn between two very different men: his reliable boyfriend, Craig, and his illicit lover and priest, Richard. Mark knows what he should do, but he can't bring himself to give Richard up. The sex with Richard is unlike anything he's ever known with Craig, and he hungers for it as much as - if not more than - the truer intimacy he finds in his boyfriend's arms.

When Craig discovers his betrayal, Mark is forced to look at his life more closely, but the path to self-knowledge is never an easy one. Richard seeks the way back to God, but Mark finds no solace there. Can he ever discover the truth of his own soul, or is he too afraid of what he will - or won't - find inside his heart?

Reviews

"Anne Brooke has written a somber and beautiful story of a man who had everything and lost it all because he coveted two very different men. It is dark and solemn and resonates with a sense of conflict and despair that wove the ideal atmosphere. It was moving and played beautifully against the knowledge that sometimes free will and human nature simply don't leave room for happy endings." (The Novel Approach)

"This was an intense and moving story that caught me up from the very start … it does a wonderful job of poking at that line between love and lust as Mark gets caught up in his two different needs and sadly finds they can only be satisfied by two different people." (Joyfully Jay Reviews)

"Anne Brooke is one of my favourites. I love the picture she always paints in her books - of a town, the people, the streets, the body language of the characters. Body language is an integral part of communication and not every writer can do this well, if at all. I like the fact that her writing is quirky, realistic and (I believe) comes from someone with keen observational skills … Short, realistic, terrific read." (On Top Down Under Book Reviews)

A Year in the Allotment: A Beginner's Guide to Losing the Plot

I'm happy to say that I have a new non-fiction book out: A Year in the Allotment (A Beginner's Guide to Losing the Plot).

What about having an allotment? So my husband asked me one day when I was innocently opening the wine and planning our weekend. The shock of the question made me blink and of course I laughed away the very idea: too much effort; not enough time; and besides we don’t know anything about allotments. All well and good then, and I thought that was that, but strangely enough the idea kept niggling away and resurfacing on various occasions.

Then a mere couple of months later, my objections were somehow swept aside by his enthusiasm and we found ourselves the proud and very nervous owners of an allotment. With not a clue what to do with it.

This is the story of our first year as allotment beginners and how we survived it. And even came to love it.

Book Lover by Jennifer Kaufman & Karen Mack: a slow-burning literary romance

An unusual book and one I really rather enjoyed, in no small measure for its difference from any other women's fiction/romance book I've read recently.

Dora is obsessed with books and uses them to both hide from and try to make sense of her rapidly disintegrating life. I found it hard to get into the book and the character at first, partly due to the sheer numbers of literary allusions in the beginning - but something sparky in the story kept me going and I'm very glad I did.

After a while, I warmed to Dora and was very glad when things began (slowly!) to turn round for her. Her relationship with her ex, Palmer, is absolutely charming, and I loved him. In the course of the novel, Dora grows and begins to deal with friends and family more effectively, and I was really rooting for her by the time the story ended. The ending is almost perfect, although - being me! - I would have preferred a wee bit more emotion in those closing pages but, on the other hand, the subtlety works very well.

So good stuff and a book I recommend.
