I'm glad you have the thought of Istanbul to sustain you. If you can face it, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova has wonderful descriptions of Istanbul. It's rather long-winded as a novel, but the travel parts are gorgeous.

I share the angst today - got to take my son to the chiropodist and the only thing worse than having to get through these things oneself, is having to witness them being done to another. Sigh.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21870845.post-17315441091360683882009-01-26T21:47:00.000+00:002009-01-26T21:47:00.000+00:00Ooh, lovely - thanks for the tips! For literary pre-preparation read the crime novels by Barbara Nadel - the first one is called Belshazzar's Daughter and they are all set in modern Instanbul. And on arrival go for cocktails in Beyoglu (was Pera) at the Pera Palas hotel - Agatha Christie used to stay there.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09575696613288942467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21870845.post-11996688541173667112009-01-26T21:26:00.000+00:002009-01-26T21:26:00.000+00:00Thanks, Lexi!
